About The Program
Our Elder's Daycare is a haven for our senior community members, providing a safe and reliable environment, bringing care and consistency to their lives.<br /> The elders are registered as guests of Samata Sarana, with the doors open to them from 6:30am to 4:00pm. <br /> The elders are given access to several facilities that they do not have access to in the slums. Access to clean, efficient toilets and bathrooms are freely accessible. They also have a both a dining hall and two long verandas furnished with chairs and folding beds to serve as a lounge for relaxation.
Our stewards are at hand to assist and entertain with activities and games. As an additional benefit, the elderly are also provided with clothing whenever needed, as well as annually on christmas. We accept all manner of beneficiaries, those who are weak, blind, feeble, or ill are helped along by the Samata Sarana ambulance and three-wheeler.
CHALLENGE
The Challenge
During our preliminary survey, we discovered that malnutrition was significant among the Elders. This drove us to introduce the take-home dinner, to ensure that the elderly do not go home hungry or empty handed. Another challenge was accounting for the various health issues that come with age. This led to the introduction of the dedicated ambulance and three-wheel and peer-support systems, helping make sure that everyone who needs to can make it to their respite at Samata Sarana.
